South Bay School

Second graders in Ms. Fitzpatrick’s class at South Bay Elementary School have been diving into the world of penguins during their recent lessons on plants and animals. After reading about emperor penguins, students gathered interesting facts about their habitats and characteristics, taking careful anecdotal notes along the way.

To extend their learning, the class watched a video about king penguins and participated in a collaborative “give a fact, get a fact” activity with partners. Working together, students exchanged what they had learned before completing a writing assignment to showcase their knowledge.

This engaging activity combined reading, writing, listening and collaboration while helping students connect science concepts with literacy skills.
